Thousands of Delta employees to support the 2010 campaign
ATLANTA, Sept. 13, 2010 – Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) employees from seven cities across the country will roll up their sleeves to partner with Habitat for Humanity, constructing both new homes and renovating others. More than 2,600 Delta employees will participate in the builds which kick off between Sept. 7 and Sept. 15, and will last between three to six weeks. Additionally, in October, 90 specially-selected Delta volunteers will travel to Chile, donating their personal vacation time to build 15 houses in El Monte, an area near Santiago that was devastated by February’s earthquake.
“Delta people have a long tradition of supporting the communities where we live and work, and our long association with Habitat is a great way to show that support and better our communities,” said Ed Bastian, president of Delta Air Lines and board member of Habitat for Humanity International.
Domestically, volunteers will work on homes in Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Memphis, Minneapolis/St. Paul and New York City. Several of the projects represent local Habitat achievements or special milestones including a LEED-certified home in Los Angeles, and in Boston, the final home in the largest density urban project in the Northeast. Also of note, this year’s build will see the completion of the 33rd and 34th homes that Delta team members have built in the Atlanta Area since 2000.
“These projects represent the very best of Habitat for Humanity’s relationships with corporate partners,” said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. “Delta Air Lines employees have become passionate supporters of affordable housing and have become an integral part of Habitat’s efforts worldwide to help families realize their dreams of a better life. We are very grateful that Delta shares our goals to build strong communities.”
